#093 - “Heavy Rotation”: Fortitude | Mr. Clapton, Daddy’s Home | Music of 1993

from You Should Check It Out · host Wimbly Stoke

Greg has decided to formalize a recurring theme & he already made a theme song (with an incredible drum track by friend of the show Travis Orbin)! We’re excited to present “Heavy Rotation”, wherein Greg introduces us to a great new (or recently discovered) metal album or artist & then, eventually, veers into the defense of heavy metal lane (with Nick & Jay agreeably in tow). This week, Greg brings us “Fortitude” by GOJIRA. It was the best selling album in the U.S. in its opening week, a first for the French heavy metal band, which formed in 1996. With full consensus from Nick & Jay, this album is pure energy injected directly into your ears. Go check it out.Songs:Gojira - “Another World?”Gojira - “New Found”Today Jay found a story about his hero Eric Clapton. It seems Mr. Clapton was scared and angry when the side effects of his second vaccine shot made his hand cold and numb. Aware that an anti-establishment tirade released online, as his friend Van Morrison did, wasn’t going to win him any accolades, he penned an anti-vaccine/big-brother letter to a friend which was forwarded immediately to the media. In other news, Eric Clapton is now fully vaccinated and can resume touring. Concerts, especially in Europe, will be attended by vaccinated people… Get The Shot! But that’s not even Jay’s topic, because we’re bringing you a second album pick this week! Released last week, “Daddy’s Home” by St. Vincent is a funky 1970s soul inspired gem of an album, available on 8-Track & recorded entirely using equipment made before 1971. Check this one out too.Song: St. Vincent - “The Melting of the Sun”For our ninety-third episode, Nick brings us the music of 1993. There are too many debut albums & monumental releases to name just a few. Nirvana & the grunge movement have made its mark and everything starts to shift to the sound we now consider 90s or alternative rock. It was a good year for music.Songs:A Tribe Called Quest - “God Lives Through”Radiohead - “Anyone Can Play Guitar”Frank Zappa - “Dog Breath Variations“
