1.12 - Culturally-Relevant and Culturally-Responsive Pedagogy

from myPD Unplugged · host myPD

All students and communities come with cultural and linguistic assets, and deserve to be treated with dignity, fairness, respect, and unconditional positive regard. In a warm-demanding learning environment, every student matters and needs to feel that they do. All students can learn and achieve at high levels, and we have a responsibility for their success. Confronting our own bias is important work for us to do if we are to truly set high expectations for all student. As a follow up to our conversation on Multicultural Education (Podcast 1.11), Pam Lovett (GATE Coordinator), David Noyes (ELD Coach), and Marika Manos (History/Social Science Curriculum Leader) discuss ways to bring Multicultural Education to life in the classroom. In this podcast, they discuss similarities and differences between Culturally Relevant and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, with real examples of how they can be applied in the field.
