1.2 — Sanctuary Cities and Federal Government: Can Cities Be Compelled to Enforce Immigration Law?

The City of Chicago, in addition to other state and local governments, sued the Federal Government after Attorney General Jeff Sessions attempted to withhold certain federal funds from "sanctuary cities." Sessions' move is intended to prevent these cities from stymieing federal immigration enforcement. Chicago and others claim withholding federal funds violates the Constitution and threatens police anti-crime efforts.
