Judas may have been an optimist who betrayed Christ after becoming disillusioned when Jesus refused to act as a worldly, political king. Unlike secular optimism, which falsely expects immediate earthly progress, Christian hope acknowledges that the world is "running down" while looking toward ultimate salvation beyond this life.
