‘For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power,’ 1 Thessalonians 1:5.Welcome to our study of the book of 1 Thessalonians. It is a beautiful book that tells us about the coming of the Lord and savior Jesus Christ. The background of 1 Thessalonians is found in Acts 17. In Thessalonica, there was a Jewish synagogue. Paul went to that synagogue in his journey, spreading the gospel. He went to that synagogue and preached Christ to them. As a result, some of the Jews and a multitude of the devout Greeks, including some of the devout leading women obeyed the gospel. And yet, because some opposed that, a persecution arose for a man named Jason and his household in Thessalonica, and thus the Bible record for us, in Acts 17:11, that some of the Jews in Thessalonica were not very fair-minded. That is, they did not have a good reception to the gospel.
