1. Coming Home to Myself: My Blasian Experience in Japan
from Identity Emergence · host Brooke Ann
In this first episode of Identity Emergence, I’m sharing the story behind my own identity journey.I was born and raised in Fukuoka, Japan as the only Blasian (Black and Japanese) girl I knew growing up. At 18, I left Japan to explore my other culture and attend college in the U.S.—but the deeper truth is, I was trying to escape.I wanted to escape feeling different.I wanted to escape not fitting the “kawaii” beauty standard.I wanted to escape the assumptions people made about me just by looking at my skin. For years, I believed moving to the U.S. would solve my insecurities. But the confidence I found at first was only surface level. It wasn’t until I began my spiritual and self-acceptance journey that I started healing the deeper belief that I wasn’t enough.Nine years later, I returned to Japan and experienced something completely different. For the first time, I felt at home—because I finally felt at home within myself. In this episode, I share:• What it was like growing up Blasian in Japan• The insecurities that shaped my early identity• Why I really left Japan at 18• The limiting belief of “I’m not enough”• My spiritual journey toward self-acceptance• Why returning to Japan now feels deeply healingThis is a story about identity, healing, and the journey from escapism to coming home—to my city, and to my soul.✨ New episodes every Friday!Connect with me💜Website & Work With Me: www.enchantstyle.coInstagram: @buru.annTikTok: @buru.annWatch my podcast on Youtube
