1 Corinthians 1:10-13

from Christ Community Bible Church Sermon Podcast · host Christ Community Bible Church

1 Corinthians 1:10–17 (ESV) — 10 I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. 11 For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers. 12 What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” 13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.Confidence In Christ That Corrects What DividesThe Appeal For Unity In The Local Church v10(a) Unity that is articulated in agreement and acted on in mind and judgement. to express oneself orally or in written form, utter in words, say, tell, give expression to     (b) Unity that doesn’t divide the condition of being divided because of conflicting aims or objectives, division, dissension, schism (c) Unity that completes not competes to cause to be in a condition to function well, put in order, restore to prepare for a purpose, prepare, make, create, outfit The Attitudes And Actions Of Quarreling Within The Corinthian Church v11-12v11 Distinction is not the problem but division  Distinction defines Church of God in Corinth v2 Chloe’s people v11 Quarreling divides – I follow… Engagement in rivalry, esp. w. ref. to positions taken in a matter, strife, discord, contentionv12 Quarreling in Corinth was not the result of leaders who they followed  but the heart of how they followedHebrews 13:7 Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God.
