IN THE GRACE OFTHE GOSPEL, WE MUST ATTACK SIN AT THE ROOT, LEST IT BEAR FRUIT!“Be killing sin orit will be killing you.” John Owen (1)  THEEXAMPLE -  THE ROOT AND FRUIT OF ISRAEL’SGRUMBLING (v6,10) THEY GRUMBLED AGAINST GOD…AND WERE DESTROYED BY THE DESTROYER… -       Exodus 14 – 17 grumbledover the exodus, for water & for meat -       Numbers 14 –Grumbled over the land / inhabitants -       Numbers 16 –Korah Grumbles over position / the people grumble over the death of the wicked    (2)  THEEXHORTATION – TAKE HEED!!!  GRACE OF GODTO ATTACK THE ROOT OF SIN (V11-12)  “Mortification ofany sin must be by a supply of grace. Of ourselves we cannot do it.” John Owen Hebrews 12:1–2 (ESV) — 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great acloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings soclosely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder andperfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was setbefore him endured the cross, despising the shame,and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:3-15  RESPONDTO THE GRACE OF DISCIPLINE·       Regard Discipline As Serious (4-5) ·       Remember Your Sonship (6-11) ·       Recompose Yourself (12-14)·       Reconciling Others (14-15)·     Resolute InChrist’s Righteousness  (14-15)    (3)  THEEXERCISE OF FAITH – FAITHFUL FRUITFULNESS! HOLDING FAST TO THE WORD OF LIFE  Philippians 2:12–18 (ESV) — 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, sonow, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your ownsalvation with fear and trembling, 13for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.14 Do all things withoutgrumbling or disputing, 15 thatyou may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midstof a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in theworld, 16 holding fast to the wordof life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vainor labor in vain. 17 Even if I amto be poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrificial offering of yourfaith, I am glad and rejoice with you all. 18 Likewise you also should be glad and rejoice with me. Philippians 4:8–9 (ESV) — 8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever ishonorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever iscommendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise,think about these things. 9 What youhave learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, andthe God of peace will be with you.

(1)  THEEXAMPLE -  THE ROOT AND FRUIT OF ISRAEL’SGRUMBLING (v6,10)

 

THEY GRUMBLED AGAINST GOD…AND WERE DESTROYED BY THE DESTROYER…

-       Exodus 14 – 17 grumbledover the exodus, for water & for meat

(2)  THEEXHORTATION – TAKE HEED!!!  GRACE OF GODTO ATTACK THE ROOT OF SIN (V11-12)
