1 Corinthians 12:9-10

1 Corinthians 12:4–11 (ESV) — 4Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.BE INFORMED ON THE GIFTS SO THAT YOU FUNCTION IN THE GIFTS1 Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed…1 Corinthians 12:7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.1 Corinthians 12:11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.FUNCTION FOR THE COMMON GOOD IN THE MINISTRY OF THE SPIRITLast week- (V8)Utterance Of Wisdom - to communicate that which is lived out in applying the truth of the word.Utterance Of Knowledge – To have understanding and retain the truth of the word of God to speak of it to others…(v9) Gift of Faith- To speak and serve with belief, trust and dependence on God in such a way that builds up the body- In Prayer Matt 21:22, James 5:15- Action Hebrews 11Romans 1:8–12 (ESV) — 8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world. 9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you 10 always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God’s will I may now at last succeed in coming to you. 11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— 12 that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.DO ALL THE GIFTS STILL FUNCTION IN THE BODY OF CHRIST?Gifts of healings – complete restoration of a person from illness, injury or disease (Matthew 8:16-17)Working of Miracles - a supernatural intrusion into the natural world, explainable only by divine intervention(John 2:11, 2 Corinthians 12:12)(1) Scripture gives precedent for the ceasing of tongues… other gifts also?a. 1 Corinthians 13:8–10 (ESV) — 8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.(2) Scripture lists particular gifts as intended to be signs of Jesus and Apostolic ministry, and are not mentioned in later Epistlesa. Acts 2:22-24, 2:42-43, 3:16, 5:5-12 14:3.b. 2 Corinthians 12:12 (ESV) — 12 The signs of a true apostle were performed among you with utmost patience, with signs and wonders and mighty worksc. Hebrews 2:3–4 (ESV) —3 how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, 4 while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.(3) Signs of healing and miracles have a particular place in God’s Revelation of himself to us.a. God does not repeat in every generation signs and wonders but calls remembrance of his faithfulness (Joshua 4:6—7)b.
