Richard Carmona is a highly decorated Vietnam combat veteran who became the 17th Surgeon General of the United States. A high school dropout in Harlem, his incredible subsequent educational journey enabled him to go from a community college in the Bronx to graduating first in his medical school class at the University of California at San Francisco. He currently serves as a professor at the University of Arizona School of Public Health. He is involved in many contemporary issues that affect individual and community health status and discusses childhood obesity, legalization of marijuana, health policy, and other key health topics in this interview.
