1 Samuel 7 & 8

In 1 Samuel 7 & 8, revival falls on the nation of Israel. They join together, hunger for God, and humble themselves before God. They repent and turn from sin and pour their hearts back to God. The Philistines attack and they cry out to God and God answers. God doesn't depend on us, we depend on Him. He is not a genie or something to be used when we think of it - He is God. Just that quickly, they forget who He is and decide they want a different king that is not God. They want to suddenly look like the nations and people around them instead of the heirs of the Almighty King they are. This was not God's plan, this was their choice. God's plans are good and He intends good things for us if we are willing to trust in Him and wait. He wants us to let Him be our King. He doesn't run the world like we do or think we should. He is Sovereign and has better plans than we know if we are willing to trust in His goodness and wait on Him and His perfect timing. He gives us fair warning if we are not in His will, but will let us go if we deny Him and insist on our own way. God uses tests in life that we choose or may face to strengthen us but He also accommodates our weaknesses. God's will is supreme and it will be brought forth. Rather than being driven by insecurity and fear that God cannot be trusted to secure our good, fear of missing out, impatience, and our emotions, feelings or gut reactions - we can choose to trust the goodness of God. We can choose to crucify our natural, sinful desires and wait on God. We can choose to let God be our King in every moment of our days and watch as His goodness and mercy pour out.
