Five Half Truths - #1: The Bible is Written by Men - August 9 2026
from Erindale Bible Chapel · host Erindale Bible Chapel
Who wrote the Bible? The obvious answer is, “Men wrote the Bible.” Moses wrote the Pentateuch. David wrote many of the Psalms. Isaiah wrote his prophecy. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John wrote the Gospels. Paul wrote letters to churches and individuals. Peter wrote two letters. Human beings picked up their pens, used their own vocabulary, wrote from their own experiences, and produced the words recorded in Scripture. But there is a problem with that answer. It is true, but it is only half the truth. The Bible was written by men, but it was not merely the product of men. Behind the human authors stands the divine Author. Behind their words stands the voice of God. The Scriptures are not simply ancient religious writings that record human ideas about God. They are God's Word given through human authors. That is the remarkable truth Peter declares in 2 Peter 1:20-21: the prophets spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. And Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 3:16 that “all Scripture is breathed out by God.” Why does this matter? Because if the Bible comes from God, then it possesses God's authority. If it is God's Word, then it speaks truth. And if God has spoken, we cannot treat His Word as merely human opinion.Series: Five Half TruthsScripture: 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 3:16-17Speaker: Pastor David Hallett
