Verse 9-10 • “What thanks can we render to God again for you” – They were very thankful for the Thessalonians and gave thanks often for them – 1Thess 1:2, 2:13, Eph 1;16 • “We joy for your sakes” – 1Thess 2:19-20 -Seeing others saved and abounding in the faith should be our joy. • “Night and day praying that we might see your face“ – Paul’s desire to see them in person was strong – 1Thess 2:17, 3:6, Phil 1:8 • “And might perfect that which is lacking” – Notice the question mark. Paul’s desire is to see them to strengthen and perfect them if they need it. This is not Corinthians where he knows what to write to rebuke & correct them – 2Cor 13:9-10 or the Galatians – Gal 3:3. i. Perfecting each other is the work of the Body of Christ – 1Cor 1:10, Eph 4:11-13, Col 1:28…. Through Gods word today – 2Tim 3:17. Verse 11-13 • “Verse 11” – They were trusting in God to reunite them – Rom 1:9-10 • “The lord make you to increase and abound in love” – By holding the head and through the ministry of the church - Eph 4:16, Col 2:18-19, Phil 1:9, • “Toward another and all men” – Rom 12:10, Phil 2:2-5…..Gal 6:10, 1Tim 2:1-4, Titus 2:11 • “Even as we do toward you” – Paul being an example – 1Cor 11:1, 9:19-22 • “To the end he may stablish your hearts” – Through doctrine – Rom 1:11, 16:25. ii. Establish ~Creating or starting something new~ iii. Stablish ~Making something firm or stable~ iv. Timothy Established them….. the Lord Stablishes them – 2Cor 1:21 2Thess 3:3. • “Unblameable in holiness before God” – Holiness comes through love towards others – Col 3:14, 1Cor 13:13. • “Coming of Jesus Christ” – Our deliverance - 1Thess 1:10. And joy - 1Thess 2:19. • “With all his saints” – The dead rise first – 1Thess 4:16. Verse (4) 1-2 • “We beseech and exhort by Jesus Christ” – Paul beseeches them to do what he just prayed for them. He doesn’t just say a prayer but puts it to action through beseeching and exhorting. • “Received of us” – If you want to know how to walk today, you must know the doctrine given to Paul – 2Tm 2:7. • “How ye ought to walk to please God” – Eph 4:1 – Col 1:10, 3:20. • “abound more and more” – Gives the idea that this is something that takes time and growth • “Verse 2” – Not MMLJ or OT, but commandments of Paul – 1Cor 11:2, 14:37 cf Eph 2:16, Col 2:14.
