1 Timothy 1 & 2
from Riverside Reading Plan Hosted by Riverside Church
Paul charges Timothy to stop false teachers who promote myths and genealogies rather than God's stewardship through faith, while his personal testimony of being the foremost sinner saved by grace demonstrates the gospel's transforming power. His instructions for public worship emphasize prayer for all people including governing authorities, reflecting God's desire for all to be saved and come to knowledge of the truth. The guidelines for women's dress and behavior in worship, along with the prohibition on teaching or exercising authority over men, reflect cultural expressions of created order while emphasizing godly character over external adornment.
