1 Timothy 4

from Hearing with Faith · host Joshua Purdy

In 1 Timothy 4, Paul calls Timothy to persistently teach and live out the truth of the gospel, stating that in doing so, he would save both himself and those that follow his example. The chapter begins with Paul warning Timothy about the false teachings that will emerge in the last days. He emphasizes the importance of focusing on the truth of God's Word rather than being led astray by deceiving spirits. Paul instructs Timothy to train himself in godliness and encourages him, as a young leader, to set an example of godliness to those he serves. He also challenges Timothy to use the spiritual gifts given to him by God for the benefit of the church. The chapter then turns to the issue of deceptions that have been creeping into the faith, such as the ban on certain foods and marriage in the name of "holiness." Paul reminds Timothy that everything God created is good, and nothing should be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving and sanctified by the Word of God.
