from Christ Community Bible Church Sermon Podcast · host Christ Community Bible Church

1 Timothy 6:17–19 (ESV)  As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.     COMMANDS YOUR DISCERNMENT: WEALTH IS NOT YOUR HOPE AND IT IS NOT YOUR HINDRANCE…  (v17)   2 WARNINGS: A.    Do Not Be Haughty Proverbs 22:2 (ESV) — 2 The rich and the poor meet together; the Lord is the Maker of them all.       B.    DO Not Set Your Hope On The Uncertainty Of Riches Proverbs 18:11 (ESV) — 11 A rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his imagination. This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ 21 So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”   1 WONDERFUL TRUTH: C.     He Richly Provides Us With Everything To Enjoy Matthew 25:14–30     COMMANDS YOUR ACTION: THE FREEDOM OF WEALTH IS FREELY LABORING AND FREELY GIVING… (v18)   3 PRINCIPLES FOR ACTION: Your Freedom in His Provision: A.    Do Good   B.    Rich in Good Works   C.     Generous and Ready to share       1 Timothy 5:3–6 (ESV) — 3 Honor widows who are truly widows. 4 But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show godliness to their own household and to make some return to their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God. 5 She who is truly a widow, left all alone, has set her hope on God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day, 6 but she who is self-indulgent is dead even while she lives.   COMMANDS YOUR INVESTMENT: ETERNAL REWARD AND ETERNAL LIFE… (v19)   1 ETERNAL REASON
