10.23: Shall We Speak in Tongues or Prophesy so the Whole World Understands?

from Seeking the Gospel Truth · host Giselle Aguiar

Once, I attended a Joyce Meyer meeting where she  did a “baptism of the Holy Spirit” and I heard people around me  speaking gibberish. They were speaking in “tongues”. That’s one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  I have 2 friends who pray in tongues. Sometimes while we’re in a group.  The only person who can understand them is God. Which is OK, if that’s  their intention. If they wanted the group to understand, there had to be  someone else with the gift of interpretation of tongues. Otherwise, the  conversation is between the person and God only. On the other hand, prophesying is when someone speaks the Word of  God, the Gospel (Good News) of Jesus Christ. They tell people about the salvation that’s only found through Jesus.  This is spoken in a language that the people can understand. English is  my first language. Thus, I write and speak in English. I expect that  the people all over the world who are reading this blog or listening to  the podcast can understand English. I also speak Spanish, when I  absolutely have to. Moreover, I’m sure if I encounter someone who needs  to hear and understand the Good News of the salvation of Jesus in  Spanish, that the Holy Spirit will give me the right words to say. And  clearly, that person will understand. Basically, that’s what Paul is talking about in 1 Corinthians chapter 14. Let’s read it… Keep reading in my blog... If you want to reap all the benefits of salvation including the 1-way, non-stop ticket to Heaven then… Believe. Repent. Be Baptized. Receive the Holy Spirit.  Pray this prayer humbly and wholeheartedly… “Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins. Please forgive me. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and my life to you. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. I surrender my whole life to you and I will follow you for the rest of my life. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me. In Jesus' name, Amen.” Jesus is coming back soon! Are you ready?
