A nationwide review of math and reading scores shows how much the COVID-19 pandemic impacted learning loss. The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as “the nation’s report card,’ tested hundreds of thousands of fourth and eighth graders across the country this year. It was the first time the test had been given since 2019, and it shows the larges average score decline in reading since 1990, and the FIRST EVER score decline in mathematics in NAEP’s decades long history. We breakdown some of the findings and the widening racial disparities.
