God takes Jeremiah the prophet on a field trip to the pottery workshop. What does he see? A potter slaps a lump of clay in the middle of his stone wheel. Spinning the wheel with his feet, he shapes the clay with his hands, forming it into a pot. When the pot doesn't come out right, he smashes the clay into a ball and starts over again. The potter's wheel is a lesson in the sovereignty of God, whereby he chooses to begin again with his creation, which includes you and me. God is in the pottery business, shaping our lives to serve his purposes, and at times making us start over again as he shapes us into a new pot.
