Patti Wukovits, BSN, RN is Co-Executive Director, and also a cofounder, of the American Society for Meningitis Prevention. Patti's 17-year-old daughter Kimberley died of meningitis just a week before her high school graduation. She was instrumental in co-founding the group alongside Alicia Stillman, another mother whose teen daughter died of meningitis. Dr. Mary Beth Koslap-Petraco is Medical Council for the Society and is a vaccine expert. World Meningitis Day is October 5, and this week we learn more about this life-threatening bacterial infection. While it can affect all age groups, adolescents and young adults are among the high-risk groups.
