10 Archdale Street St. Johns Lutheran Church

Today were going to stop at a very historical and important Church, the St Johns Lutheran Church at 10 Archdale Street. This German Friendly Society was founded in 1766 by members of the congregation to assist new immigrants and to give aid to the windows and ophans. German architect Frederick Wesner was the one who designed this church and Abraham P Reeves did the iron work. Dr. John Bachman was the heart and soul behind this church and made sure everyone and anyone who wanted attend the church. in 1860 the black communicant membership of St Johns had grown to 200 members with a black Sunday school of 150 pupils. St. Johns was the first Charleston Church to reopen following the Civil War. this church as faced some major hits due to Mother Nature but never gave up.
