“GEORGE WASHINGTON IS TO BE DRAWN AND QUARTERED!”   56 patriots—America’s Colonial leaders—signed our Declaration of Independence.   Think about it, often those with the most to lose courageously stepped forward knowing they would be targeted by the most powerful king on earth.   Courageously they put their name right where King George III could not miss it on the Declaration of Independence.   The Signers all knew the seriousness of signing a document of high treason against the crown.   They knew George the 3rd would condemn them as traitors, subject to not only arrest, but the confiscation of their property.   Then, their summary execution.   But not just any execution. Drawing and quartering was required for traitors, one of the most painful, humiliating, horribly bloody ways to die fashioned by the creative hand of man.   And they weren’t just risking their own lives.
