10 - Male Survivor Awareness Day 2023, Part 2 (from the Husband Material LIVE event 10/25/23)

from Healing for Male Survivors with Mike Chapman · host Mike Chapman

This is the second of a 3-part live Zoom event in honor of Male Survivor Awareness Day   Back on October 25, 2023, MenHealing continued the tradition set in 2022 of Recognizing that day as Male Survivor Awareness Day to coincide with the month of October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month. While they planned their own event, Drew Boa of Husband Material and I thought it would be good to again set up another live event this year, after doing a similar event for 2022. This included participation of the Husband Material Membership, specifically its sub-group fellowship for Abuse Survivors.  Fellowship members submitted poetry and other items to be shared, some live, some previously recorded, and some read by others. The event was co-hosted by myself and Dr. Doug Carpenter, Author of Secret Shame: A Survivor's Guide To Understanding Male Sexual Abuse And Male Sexual Development. This year we came up with a theme: “Disclosure” - why it often takes so long to tell anyone about the abuse.  The goal for this event (and the “Day” in total) was to help non-survivors understand and work with survivors to help support them on their healing journeys. A 2nd goal of our specific event was to help people understand better the concept of disclosure and why it takes survivors so long to tell others. With Drew's permission I am sharing the audio from the event with you here. Due to the length, I am dividing it into 3 podcast episodes. #MSAD2023 Original video version of this interview will be available soon: https://podcast.husbandmaterial.com/  1in6.org - helpful website Secret Shame: A Survivor's Guide To Understanding Male Sexual Abuse And Male Sexual Development - book by Dr. Doug Carpenter (paid link) Bent on Men: A memoir on taboo feelings, fraternal curiosity, and faith - book by Dr. by Harrison Bly and Ethan Renoe (paid link) Unchained Memories: True Stories Of Traumatic Memories Lost And Found - book by Lenore Terr (paid link) Husband Material Coaching - get professional help to heal  Scouts Honor: The Secret Files of the Boy Scouts of America - Documentary on Netflix Leaving Neverland - Documentary on Max MenHealing.org - helpful website MaleSurvivor.org - helpful website  Reintegrative Therapy (Drew Boa's interview with Dr. Joseph Nicolosi Jr. on the HM Podcast) Sexual Arousal vs. Sexual Desire (with Dr. Doug Carpenter) (Drew Boa's interview with Dr. Doug Carpenter on the HM Podcast) Learn more about how to join the CSA Support Group Fellowship within Husband Material at https://www.polarlifeconsulting.com/live-chat Learn more about Husband Material and how they help men find freedom from porn (and other sexual brokenness issues) at https://www.HusbandMaterial.com More episodes from Drew’s podcast are available here: https://podcast.husbandmaterial.com/ **Trigger Warning/Explicit Content Warning**  - we will talk openly and frankly about sexual abuse from the victims perspective.
