While hip pain from deadlift isn't as common as it is with squatting, Knowing how to modify the conventional or sumo deadlift for hip pain of various types is important so you can continue to train for strength and performance despite issues you have with your hips. Hip pain with deadlift can be irritated by a variety of things: Start position Chosen stance Relative load on the bar Stance width Toe out There is almost always a way you can continue to train your sumo deadlift or conventional deadlift through an episode of acute or chronic hip even if you're using lighter weight or a deadlift variation.
