Each day, thousands of words come out of our mouths and are typed with our hands. Often, our words are simple or explanatory in nature. Sometimes our words are used to love and encourage others. But then, there are times our words are hurtful, damaging, or lies. The 9th Commandment makes it clear that our words are powerful, and they may never be used to spread false truths about others. James is in his letter shares that tongues are such small, powerful tools that are full of poison. Why is it that we feel that we can use our words to hurt others? It’s quite easy actually…when our words are broken, we are broken. God is commanding His people to use their words to speak life, not to lie and damage others.
