Have you ever wondered where resiliency comes from or why it is a good thing to have? Julie Deem shares 11 strategies to be more resilient according to Psychology Today. · 11 strategies: 1. Stop your negative thought cycles. 2. Question the catastrophe. 3. Overcome your fear of failure. 4. Find the benefits of past challenges and failures. Ask yourself a. Were there, or will there be, any positive outcomes that result from this situation? b. Are you grateful for any part of this situation? c. In what ways are you better off than when you started? d. What did you learn? e. How did you grow and develop as a result of this situation? 5. Emotionally distant yourself from challenges. a. Ask yourself these questions to practice being a fly on the wall: i. Would the observer be able to understand why you are upset? ii. Would the observer be able to see the other person’s point of view? iii. How would the observer evaluate the situation? iv. Might this observer view the situation differently than you do? 6. Remember, this too shall pass. a. In five years, what will you be doing? b. How will you be spending your time? c. How will you be feeling? d. How will you feel about this particular event? 7. Find the silver lining. 8. Practice reappraisal while streaming movies. 9. Find the benefits in life. 10. Run at the dog. 11. Use your negative emotions to propel you forward.
