The Kepler Space Telescope was a NASA space telescope launched in 2009 to discover Earth-sized planets orbiting other stars. It was named after astronomer Johannes Kepler, who discovered the laws of planetary motion in the 17th century. Kepler used a technique called the transit method to find planets.
