#100 – Your Social Media Is a Trust Check, Not a Lead Machine with Brian Glass

from Sharp Strategies Sweet Success · host Tifiny Swedensky and Brian Glass

Brian Glass and I did not know we were recording the 100th episode of Sharp Strategies, Sweet Success. We also did not plan to land on one of the cleanest explanations I have heard for why lawyers should use social media.Brian is a partner and personal injury attorney at BenGlassLaw. We talked about the “Google tax,” intake automation, AI, delegation, travel, and building a law firm that does not require the owner to hold every task together. But the idea that stuck with me was simpler: Social media may not be where the right client discovers you. It may be where that client decides whether to trust you.A referral isn’t the end of the relationshipA potential client hears your name from a friend, another lawyer, or a former client. Then they search for you. They look at your website, your reviews, and probably your social profiles. They are not necessarily hunting for a 90-second explanation of underinsured motorist coverage. They are trying to answer a more basic question: Is this person credible, understandable, and someone I can imagine calling? That means social media has a different job. It does not always have to create discovery. Sometimes it just needs to confirm:* This person is real.* This person knows what they are doing.* This person is not going to make an already stressful problem worse. That is a meaningful marketing job, even if the post never produces a directly attributable lead.Personality gives people a reason to remember youBrian talked about people approaching him at conferences to ask about his Italy itinerary. People mention my weightlifting videos to me. Neither topic is a legal explainer, but both give someone an easy opening to start a conversation. That is the part many law firms miss. They create content that proves they know the law, but nothing that helps a prospective client remember the person behind the expertise. The point is not to turn every attorney into an influencer. The point is to show enough personality that a referral does not land on a sterile, interchangeable profile.Build content around the job it needs to doYour website and YouTube channel can carry the detailed, searchable answers that demonstrate expertise. Your social channels can make the attorneys recognizable and give people a reason to stay connected. When it makes sense, you can move that audience to an email list you control. The mix will look different for every firm, but stop requiring every social post to prove itself with an immediate signed case. Ask whether the content helps a referred prospect recognize you, remember you, and feel more comfortable taking the next step. This was supposed to be a normal conversation with someone I have known for years. It became a fitting 100th episode: systems create freedom, AI is only useful when humans still know what good looks like, and marketing still comes back to trust.Listen to the 100th episode of Sharp Strategies, Sweet Success:Thanks for reading Legal Marketing Strategies from Sharp Cookie!
