This podcast comes without Damo whose grandfather (Papa) has died aged 99. We send Damo and his family our sincerest condolences at this time. Papa’s passing raises a conversation that we had around celebrating life when we were in Ikaria back in 2016. Upon learning about how Ikarians (and many people in the Greek Orthodox faith) “do death”, there is a strong case to argue that we have a lot to learn about in our culture. You will hear in this episode that in Ikaira, “the funeral is just the beginning, not the end”, which is very different for many of us. You will also hear about multi-generational family dynamics, and how they are celebrated.
