101 Remembrance

Send us Fan MailThis weekend, much of the world remembers the carnage that was the First World War. At the time, it was hoped that this would have been “the war to end all wars”. It was not to be. As you’ll hear in today’s episode, the historian Trevor Royle argues that the War marked the practical start of the 20th century which ended in 1991 with the collapse of communism; and all through that time, the world was either at war or under the threat of conflict. This weekend, people will remember those who died with Portobello and Joppa Parish Church decorated in poppies.
