#101 The Gifts of Grief 2.0 with Cecilia Mannella

from Finding Joy in the Hard · host Suzanne Andora Barron

Today I'm sharing with you, "The gifts of grief," my interview with Cecilia Mannella. It's very fitting that I'm resharing this episode today, December 4th because it's the anniversary of my dad's death. My dad would be 94. He died when he was 79. I launched this podcast, Finding Joy in the Hard on December 4th, 2023, a year ago today because the anniversary of my dad's death and my son's death have come to mean something different to me.  I've  learned to live fully, to remember that I can step into the unknown and be okay. I can do things that scare me because nothing's as scary as losing someone you love.  And I know if I can do these things, you can do these things too. We're so much stronger than we think we are and joy can be found in the hard. This interview I'm sharing today was one of my most listened to—here's some details about Cecilia and our conversation.  The reason I asked Cecilia onto my show is because she lost her husband, Tony, when she was only in her 30s. We have a conversation about what it feels like to be in grief, how we manage it, how we deal with other people's expectations and how we get to a point where we have to choose whether we'll seek to find joy again or we'll remain in that hardened, closed place. It's not when we're in deep grief of course. It's later. And it's not a one and done decision. It's a decision that needs to be made every single day. If you'd like to reach out to Cecilia.
