In 1986 Kevin qualified as a Registered Nurse and in 1987 began working on the UK’s first HIV-AIDS ward at The Middlesex Hospital in London opened by Princess Diana. Subsequently Kevin worked in a variety of NHS roles in HIV-AIDS and acute medical-surgical services 1983-1994, as staff nurse, charge nurse, clinical nurse specialist and lecturer. Kevin undertook experimental nursing research in respiratory care at King’s College London 1987-1989 for which he was awarded an MSc and later undertook social science research at London South Bank University 1995-2001 into people’s experiences of ‘HIV tests’ - the Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), the Western blot and the Polymerase Chain Reaction - for which he was awarded a PhD (2001). Kevin has worked in hospitals, primary care and community health services in the fields of acute medicine, infectious diseases, psychosexual and forensic medicine. Kevin has gained clinical nursing and health science research experience working in the UK National Health Service (1983-2004) and in the medical and nursing faculties at St George's Hospital Medical School / Kingston University London; The University of York (and the Hull-York Medical School); Liverpool John Moores University; Canterbury Christchurch University, Kent and Middlesex University, London. Kevin has published in citizen science journals like Continuum (1996-1999) and in peer-reviewed science journals e.g. Science, Technology & Human Values, Critical Public Health and Health Science Reports.  Buy me a coffeeSupport the show
