#103 - “Lost in the Shuffle”, Mount Rushmore of Jazz, “Donda” Delayed

from You Should Check It Out · host Wimbly Stoke

This week, as Greg rounds up his recent tour exhausted and anxious to get home. Meanwhile, he’s had a segment idea where we discuss what a “shuffle” rhythm is and listen to examples…so he’s combined the two and calls the whole segment “Lost in the Shuffle”. He’s really on fire with the named bits so we’re happy to have the streak extended. We’re also excited to dig into shuffle rhythms. What are they exactly? We listen to some examples, disagree a bit and then return back to a conclusion by the end.Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats - Over & Over AgainJellyfish - “New Mistake”Toto - “Rosanna”Steely Dan - “Home At Last”Jay was inspired by something Greg said last week when he mentioned the notion of a personal Mount Rushmore of Musicians. Feeling the scope was possibly too broad and personal, Jay’s decided to challenge the team to come up with a Mount Rushmore of Jazz as a group. It was quite enjoyable, we’re sure we’ve left out a bunch of big names, focused too much on the 50s-60s, etc etc…. You’ll have to listen for the results, but we’ll leave the comments on the episode’s page open. Agree? Disagree? Offended? Let us know!Song: David Bowie - “Be My Wife”Nick gives us a long awaited Kanye West update. Kanye’s been tweeting about a new album lately and last Friday he held a listening party at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The album was scheduled to drop at midnight the same night, but still hadn’t appeared in streaming services at the time this episode was recorded. According to reports, a song featuring Jay-Z, newsworthy for the event, was being recorded earlier that day….and this confirms Nick’s suspicions that Kanye is the most confident individual that the music industry has ever seen.Song: Low - “Days Like These”
