She trained as a physical education and biology teacher in the U.K., completed a Masters in Medical Sciences (specializing in pediatric cardiology) and a PhD in Pediatric Exercise Physiology. She joined the University of Hong Kong in 1994 and worked as a Professor of Pediatric Exercise Physiology for 19 years before joining UBCO in 2013.
