from Strong Ambition Podcast · host Rhyland Qually

105 - How to improve your strength without breaking down! - Dr. J’aime Goguen Are you curious about improving your strength without your body breaking down? Well, imagine what it’s like to work with high-level competitive powerlifters and try to keep their bodies from breaking down. That’s Dr. G’s job for her powerlifting team…And she helps me! Dr. J’aime Goguen is a board-certified doctor of chiropractor and helps work specifically with powerlifting athletes. I came across her Instagram account and noticed how smart her rehab exercise was. So we did a counseling session, and we started to work together using her unique online method of weekly therapy coaching. Each week, I send her videos of the rehab exercises she gets me to do, and the main lifts I want to keep improving while managing my hip and knee pain. She has made a huge impact on me and has a ton of knowledge to offer as she doesn’t just coach you on the therapy but also helps make you better at the main lifting pattern itself to prevent the issue in the long term. We dive into so many great topics around powerlifting and rehab, so you will for sure learn alot. In this episode we discuss - How she got into being a therapist - How she goes into the powerlifting demographic - What makes working with powerlifting athletes so different - What are good tips for the bench press? - What are good tips for the back squat? - What are good tips for the deadlift? - Is sumo cheating compared to conventional? - Where is her powerlifting ambition? If you like lifting heavy stuff, this is a fun conversation to enjoy.
