#105 Nyjah Huston’s "Shine On" Skate Companion [Disorder Part]

Here we go, Deme. Here we go. Old school turbo sports radio today. Yeah, we're throwing it back to the helm.

Gonna be short as well. What was the shortest one we've ever done? No, there was one that was really short. I think there's one that's under 10 minutes, which is just absurd, isn't it?

If we talk quick enough, you might be able to beat that one. This video that we're going to cover today is only six minutes, 46 seconds long. But there is skateboarding on turbo sports radio, mate. It's been a while, but we've got some skateboarding.

Yeah. Yeah. Well, when was the last time we've done a companion as well? Giago Lemos's new balance shoe release, I think maybe.

Yeah, I think you're right. Yeah. We're probably going to get a lot of heat for this as well. Like out of all the skateboarders, we spoke a lot about a lot of skateboarders.

We just haven't covered any. So we picked the Marmite of skateboarding in Nigel Houston, mate. Thoughts on that? Is this a good idea?

Well, for us, it's been a good idea. When we've covered, Nigel has been one of our best performing episodes. I'm going to get that red cartridge out again. It's a shame because that artwork I've stolen for.

So I think that's like the Christmas special that didn't release, but I've still got it waiting to win. Okay. So we might have three red cartridges in the next. Next episode, we'll just have a load of red cartridges.

But, uh, it's that time of year. Exactly. Yeah. It's getting festive.

I mean, don't be wrong, some of them were really good. Like some of those shots were really good. Like that high angle that we spoke about from the flip front nose. But some of them seemed like they were a little too far behind.

Yeah. It was that drone line through the school. Why do you need a drone through the school? If the skater can navigate it, the cameraman can also navigate it quite nicely.

I feel like a drone, if you're bombing some hills in San Francisco, yeah, get the drone out. That'll look wicked. But that's school line is not needed. So I mean, quick, if we can just, before we kind of talk about a couple of tricks in it, mate, let's just give ourselves a little turbo rating.

You've got to give it fresh off the viewage rather than kind of retrospectively going at it. What we're saying, I'm kind of going, I suppose I'm just going to have three on that. For what Nigel can handle, I think it probably is a three. I mean, there's some crazy tricks in it.

There is some crazy tricks. 3.8, you know, if I'm, but they ain't quite making four for me. No, I think a three. Probably did want to be brutal and just give it a two.

But I'm assuming that's the John O'Gimmick wanted to do that in it more than me. Yeah. Well, I just feel like his other parts. But if you're going to watch the Nigel part, you're not going to watch that one.

But the comments don't stick up to that. Anyway, but yeah, a three because the level of skateboarding was really good. But I think as a product itself, it wasn't the greatest. Have you got it on YouTube, you say?

I mean, someone's like, absolutely bonkers. Love the trick selection. Those suits shoes in the beginning were a thing of beauty. Super unique feel and great vibes on this part two.

Someone said they don't want this to end. I'm going to tell you this. I missed the five. Yeah.

Someone said, I've watched the instance. He was a kid. I was also a kid. So wild, tongue flies.

It's amazing seeing him at the top of his game. Yeah, everyone's just licking his ass a bit. Yeah. I mean, how am I going to break it down?

I was very excited in this first line. I do like that kind of setup, you know, a bit more kind of, it is candid, but production value is fucking five star. Yeah. You know, so you're kind of viewing it like that.

Like I always get a fucking hard on over the Austin Gillette quick video, you know, because as someone, you know, when university study that sort of shit, that's how that's a unique way of filming skateboarding. And there's storytelling without any acting or without any like dialogue. You're seeing the progression and whatever. And you can see a story unfolding, but I just think, why was that for the rest of the part?

Why open like that if you're not going to go through? Yeah, I'm with you. I'm with you as well, mate. At least give us a couple more because they did try it with those lines.

You know, they did try it, but they didn't quite capture the same essence, did they? And I think that's what it was kind of missing. It just needed that air around the skateboarding that we kind of love to place it somewhere, rather than being just production valley because just high production valley on its own kind of almost makes skateboarding clinical and it kind of loses the grip. Yeah.

I think if I had to hazard a guess as to what happened with this part, the list of filmers is quite high. So I think what happened is Ty and Nigel started to put together an element video and then Koei was everything and then disorder came out. And I just don't think Ty was able to do the entire project. You can see, you can tell which lines were Ty and the fact that it's edited by him.

He's tried to do his shit. Yeah, he has been the architect because obviously even if he let other people fail me, still wanted to keep it, which is cool. I like that because it should always be a one man vision really with help of other people, but it should be kind of someone's idea running through it because otherwise you kind of lose yeah, lose a bit of personality I suppose. Yeah, let me just scroll back on a few tricks, mate.

Just just to highlight a few. I mean, the one that I definitely had an orgasm over was that 180 nose grind, 180 out down that hub. It's going to run round like that. That timestamp was fairly.

310. 310? Yeah. Yeah.

So I mean, that is probably the highlight for me in the whole video. It was just such a nice little lift out of it as well, not like a super pop, not like a show. He hasn't forced it out. He's just caressed that motherfucker out on that front foot.

Yeah. Like he pivots out afterwards. He didn't do that. He didn't start spinning in the grind, which you might do on a ledge.

You probably couldn't get away with it on a hubber, but to kind of swing yourself round, I feel like that's what you would want to do is to constantly be spinning. But no, he like 180'd and then 180'd. Yeah, it was five star. It was fucking absolutely perfection.

That front feeble on the overpassing was pretty nice. That's like two, 25. Yeah. Yeah.

Again, that was another point where they did give us some of those shots that let us kind of just place ourselves in the landscape, you know, get us to the spot, but not from the skateboarder's point of view, from the fucking because they start with that low angle on the road shot. So that's what most people are going to see when you're driving past me, you know, whatever you're doing, go on your way to work and you see some other fucker up on the handrail of the bridge. You're going to be like, what is going on here? Yeah.

Yeah. Nice shot. And then again, just some silky cutaways, you know, and showing the kind of the danger, you know, from that first little bail, you know, those, those, uh, those, uh, those honks that they probably put in an impact. Oh, yeah.

That's post. You know that's post. But it is a nice video. And there are some stand out tricks.

I mean, what else have we got? The one that I would say is the proper overcrook. That's that is a tasty trick. Very tasty.

Yeah. People call that spicy these days, maybe it's spicy. Yeah. I did like there was a, I think it was a back lip down a thin hubber as well, somewhere near the end of the video.

I'm trying to, trying to find it. And it was pretty fucking impressive. There we go. 425.

Yeah. 425. Crazy back lip down a basically a block, concrete block rail, if you will. You know, a really thin hub.

Oh, yeah. Because you could absolutely fuck yourself up on that. I mean, I've never, you know, a back lip like a fucking curb. You know, I could wax up curb and swipe down to fakey because there's no way I'm getting back to, I try to get back to Regmate.

That's me, pal, by myself. So there's an happening. So I can all the way around. But if he's, if he holds out on that and it doesn't move, you'll get in power on to the, to the fucking hubber.

And then I don't know what happens afterwards, but you're getting thrown to the dirt afterwards. Yeah, it's not going to be fun. It's definitely not heavy trick. I mean, I'm not taking away how heavy some of these tricks are, but it's, I don't know, maybe it's just the way it's comprised.

It's just not quite the caliber that we're used to seeing from what you said before, from Nigeria. You know, you're not going to watch this one over any of it. Any of us others really. Yeah.

It's just, and I think the, the song selection helps with that. Or, yeah, because it doesn't hype you up to watch it. And you don't need a rap song all the time and you don't need like a classic rock song or whatever, but it just, it doesn't provoke anything. And, but yeah, but the thing is about a hit hop or a bit of fucking rock or anything.

It never hurts, mate. Never hurt. No, it doesn't. You know, it can always, sometimes you don't want to be fit, but it doesn't hurt because you still, it's fine.

Whereas this is a bit like fucking muffin and something like that. It's like, it's all right. And as a time of place for it, you know, you can be around a campfire mate with an acoustic guitar, having a sip and on some fucking whiskey, you know, that's all you got there. And you could be having a fucking, you know, maybe a bag of marshmallows, small bags, you've got to be careful.

You can't just go for it. It's not wild. You could be having a nice time with that tune, but just not well, you know, apparently one of the greatest skaters do ever fucking do it. He's shredded, you know, and it's just not quite, yeah, not quite hitting the notes for me.

No, no, I was just thinking though, I don't know if you know, there was an element video that just had a video premiere. I don't think it's out yet. Oh, no, that it's just been, I'm trying to think what it's a scroll down. So yes, yeah.

So elements new video, ESP volume two premiered last week in Hollywood. So a packed house of fans, check the red carpet before you check the flick, whatever. That's obviously Burnett talking about his arse. So I'm wondering if that was the, if that, you know, he's kind of releasing this pretty much the same time that video is coming out.

Trying to like jump ahead of the game sort of thing. Yeah, it was, you know, kind of saying that this, you know, I was going to be releasing a video then, but I don't know, his time development was done one it really, you know, he was kind of almost bigger than a brand and they are going to get rid of all their skates anyway, you know, that's kind of, that's their business model now. Yeah. Just get some European fucking nobodies.

You know, knock about in RekiBik or fucking Oslo or something, do some nice, some curved architecture and wear some beanies while you're doing it. You know, that's about it. Yeah. I don't get what element I'm doing.

Like, they've had so many good skate holders that I've just gone, but they've still got my happy yard. So they're doing something right. Yeah. If you can hold on to Apple Yard fair enough, I'll always, you know, I mean, elements always in other special place in my heart because of what it was.

But it's sorry. I mean, not that it needed Nigel, you know, Nigel was just there. He's almost his own brand anyway. I almost feel like the disorder thing.

Why the fuck didn't he just call it Nigel or Jars or something? You know, like, I just, yeah, skateboards. I just, disorder is just a bit like me, just like that part. Yeah.

It has a good idea, but doesn't actually like execute on it properly. But because it's no joke, it carries itself so much. Yeah. Yeah.

I mean, I don't think I'll be going back to watch that. It's a good video. You haven't seen it, definitely going to watch it, but I just, it just lacked a bit of grit, lacked a bit of depth. Yeah.

There's some, the backtail ender is incredible. I mean, I can actually get the actual county and now I'm going to step to this one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen. So it's pretty impressive, you know, and they're on 20th step backtail. Yeah.
