107. April Stearns (Breast Cancer Survivor and Founder of Wildfire Magazine)

On today’s episode, I am speaking with April Stearns. April was diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age and after she completed active treatment, she started looking to connect with other people who had gone through similar experiences. At the time, the online cancer communities and social media platforms did not really exist and so Wildfire Magazine was created – a magazine both for and by women with cancer and specifically for those women considered “too young” for cancer. One of my favorite quotes from the Magazine is: “For the women who came before us and endured it all with none of what we have now, I am grateful and saddened. I hope that they know it was their stories and their needs that taught us that we deserve more.” This conversation with April is about the power of storytelling, connection, bearing witness, healing and love.
