#107: Breaking Through as a Duo with Two Friends

from The EDM Prodcast · host EDMProd

Show notes: edmprod.com/107 In this episode, I have a chat with Matt and Eli from the duo Two Friends. They have original releases on Spinnin', Armada, and Dim Mak, as well as over 27 # 1 tracks on Hype Machine. They’re also known for their viral remixes of tracks like Trap Queen and Mr. Brightside which have gained tens of millions of streams on Soundcloud. In the episode, we dive deep into how Matt and Eli grew their production skills and their career while they worked remotely in college. They had big dreams for this project from the very start, so it was great hearing how they hustled for themselves, treating their artist project as if it their own start-up. Naturally, we talk about the workflow of being in a duo, diving into how they split up work to make sure they're being as efficient as possible. We also talk about the logistics of building the right team around your project, and why they’re glad they remained independent for as long as they did. On the production side of things, we talk about how they stay productive in the studio, making sure they focus on the big picture instead of getting lost in the details. They also talk about how they stay excited and motivated to finish songs they’ve been working on for a while, which is an issue nearly all producers run into. The Two Friends just announced a massive North American tour with Matoma that kicks off early next year, which you can find more about here - http://smarturl.it/campsuperdope Connect with Two Friends: Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/two-friends Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/twofriendsmusic Twitter: https://twitter.com/twofriendsmusic Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/twofriendsmusic/
