Foi estudar a descobriu sua habilidade para liderar e empreender. Ele se tornou presidente da associação de moradores da comunidade, atraiu empresas e montou grandes projetos sociais que transformaram Paraisópolis numa referência. Há dois anos, Gilson também criou o G10, bloco que reúne as 10 maiores favelas do país para reolver problemas dessas comunidades e inspirar outras. Entre as mais novas iniciativas do bloco estão a criação de um banco e até uma "Bolsa de Valores da Favela". aúde no Brasil. Criada em 2011, a startup de saúde já atendeu 2 milhões e meio de pacientes.
