Saining is a protective & cleansing charm that starts with a symbol of intention and works on the premise that the Celts were an animist culture who believed everything had a Spirit and soul.  Saining has a long history in Scottish folk magic, and there is evidence of Saining practises throughout the Celtic archaeological landscape.  Although it is not a direct equivalent of Native American smudging, it is a beautiful alternative you can weave into your Shamanic practice for cleansing and clearing yourself and your surroundings of unwanted influence.
