Definition of Self Control- the ability to control oneself, in particular one's emotions and desires or the expression of them in one's behavior, especially in difficult situations. Through he Holy Spirit we have power over our fleshly desires. A person with self control maintains a lift of moderation and control. Other words that translate here are restraint, moderation, discipline, balance, temperance Paragraph from Sparkling gems by Rick Renner You can see how opposite temperance or self control is to the works of the flesh. If the flesh is allowed to have its way , it will over worry, overwork, overeat, overindulge, and literally run itself to death. But when a person is controlled by the Holy Spirit, God’s spirit produces in him a discipline over the physical realm that helps her sustain her physical condition, stay in good health, remain free from sin and live a life that is moderate and balanced. Proverbs 25:28- like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self control 2 Peter 1:5-8 For this very reason make every effort to add to your faith goodness, and to goodness, knowledge;and to knowledge, self control and to self control perseverance;, godliness; and the godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thanks for listening friend!
