#109: Grace + Your Body: What trips you up from treating your body with grace

from Grace In Real Life podcast · host Jill E. McCormick, writer + speaker

We're talking about viewing our bodies through the lens of grace. In this episode,  I'll share my body's story What trips us up from treating our bodies with grace And what is true Six mindsets we hold about our bodies: Our bodies are machines designed to produce without getting sick, having feelings about anything, or needing rest. We conflate our bodies with sin. Our bodies are to be fixed. Our bodies aren't a safe place. Our bodies are solely defined by how we look or from what disease we suffer.  Our bodies are that it is less important than our minds, emotions, will, and intellect.  What God says is true about our bodies Friends, Jesus values the body. Jesus values your body. Christ came to us as an unborn baby held, formed, and kept safe by the body of a woman.  Jesus came to earth as a human with a physical body. We remember they are temples.  Jesus's desire is for us to care for our bodies and love them. I came to view them as separate entities that happened to occupy the same space.  - Jill E. McCormick We experience how people treat us, talk to us, and invite us into their lives (or not) based on what is happening in our bodies.  - Jill E. McCormick For those of us who grew up in the Church, it seemed that the body was a mere necessity to carry around the all-important soul. That the goal was to whip our sinful, horrible bodies in shape so that our souls could get about the work of the kingdom.  - Jill E. McCormick Our bodies are so important to God, He literally deposited His Son into the body of a woman. Does that not blow your mind?  - Jill E. McCormick Because Christ lives within the very core of my being, I must ask, "How is a temple to be maintained? What is the purpose of the temple? How do I act when I'm in one?"  - Jill E. McCormick We were all created in God's image, and there is no better image to be created in, ever. And there never will be. - Hillary L.
