In rugby league – the  Canberra Raiders continued their stunning recent run at AAMI Park,  upsetting the Melbourne Storm 20-28 last night to storm into the second  week of the NRL finals. With the win, the Raiders became the first team  to win five straight games against the Storm in Melbourne. Cowboys blockbuster, Jason Taumalolo scored in the 80th minute plus the conversion leveled it at 30-30 Sharks. Neither team scored in extra time so they headed into golden point where a 40-metre field goal from the Ice Man, Valentine Holmes sealed the win for the Cowboys 32-30. In football – the  English Premier League, Championship and Leagues have all been  postponed, as well as the start of the new Women's Super League season,  due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, with the country now in a  state of national mourning. The funeral is on Monday 19 September 2022. In boxing – in  a crazy 48 hours, the original UFC279 main event in Las Vegas was  scrapped after Khamzat Chimaev weighed in over the Welterweight limit  and the new UFC279 main card will see Nate Diaz vs Tony Ferguson,  Khamzat Chimaev vs Kevin Holland, and Li Jingliang vs Daniel Rodriguez. In tennis – US  Open Tennis Mens No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz plays in a one-of-a-kind US  Open final on Sunday against No. 5-seed Casper Ruud from from Norway. This  is the first Grand Slam final between two players eyeing both a first  major championship and the ATP’s No. 1 World Tennis ranking.
