After only one night, a camp counselor found the three girls brutally slain around 150 yards away from their shared tent. After a massive manhunt, police found their suspect: a local Cherokee and escaped convict by the name of Gene Leroy Hart, a man with both a violent past and a standing of merit in his community as a former high school football star.But despite the evidence against him, convincing both whites and Natives alike with a long distrust of law enforcement to believe he did it was a whole other matter.
