11: How do I negotiate workplace conflicts?

from Negotiation with Alice · host Alice

Send us Fan MailBusiness Coach, Lloyd Cain asks how to deal with workplace conflicts. After high school, lloyd stepped out of his comfort zone, and sought adventure out side of South Africa, he spent 2 years in the Middle East volunteering, then he went to sea, working in privately owned luxury super yachts, he spent +\- 14 years, between the Mediterranean, Caribbean and on two separate occasions doing around the world trips. In 2011 whilst still working on the boats, Lloyd took up a new adventure, and that was to attend university, he completed his BA in humanities (2013), has an honours in History (2014). After his honours in 2014, Lloyd officially stepped away from a life at sea. A new adventure was now to seek a shore based career, from 2015-2018, Lloyd worked part-time for a NPO (non profit organization) in his home town of Cape Town. In 2019 Lloyd went back to academics and did his Masters of philosophy in management coaching from Stellenbosch University Business School. In 2021, after completing his masters, Lloyd started his own executive coaching practice. The work space for many decades has been an environment that sadly at times has done more harm than good. For example, companies demanding loyalty and extra time from their staff, but hardly reciprocating that back. When a company misses their projected profit outcomes, the go-to course of actions is to lay off staff. However it is not all negative. There are equally work spaces that truly do value their staff and customers. As a result, the loyalty and level of effort is mutual.I do what I do because I have witnessed and experienced both the negative work space and the positive work space. My objective with executive coaching is to enhance the positive work environment, and mitigate the negative elements that realistically will always be with us. Coaching is not a quick fix solution, it is a journey that challenges the business assumptions, forces the justification of actions and decisions. Ultimately coaching is about doing business at an ethical and moral level, not what you can get away with legally, and that for many business owners, line managers, team leaders can be a very difficult realization to confront and come to terms [email protected] | +27 76 666 1936To work with Alice or take one of her negotiation classes, please visit ShikinaNegotiationAcademy.comSign up for one of our negotiation courses at ShikinaNegotiationAcademy.comThanks for listening to Negotiation with Alice!
