Mental Health in America continues to be a major issue that needs to be addressed. The numbers of reported mental health concerns is growing (around 1 in 5 report concerns) and the gap between who needs help and who is getting help is also increasing; particularly in the youth of America. My hopes in this episode is to bring awareness to how many people are suffering from mental health concerns and that those concerns may show up in a variety of ways. Your job is to BE KIND! Offer everyone the kindness, compassion, and understanding that you would want from them because odds are, if someone is mistreating you, it is likely the symptom of underlying mental health concerns that have surfaced in that moment. While this is difficult, it is possible. Without contradicting myself, it is in your rights to place, and keep, boundaries that protect your own mental well-being too. Someone else’s problems does not have to become your emergency. If you are someone you know is need in immediate mental health attention please reach out to a local provider, ask your doctor for a referral to a therapist, call your insurance provider for a list of approved therapists you can see, or go to psychologytoday.com and search for one near you.
