#110 - In The News: Harm Reduction in West Virginia (Dr. Shaw)
from The Addiction Connection Podcast · host theaddictionconnection
Harm Reduction is back in the news again in West Virginia. "For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. 13 And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual. 14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. 16 “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ." (1 Corinthians 2:11-13 ESV) [1] 2:15 What is the difference between human wisdom words and spirit wisdom words? 4:00 What is the goal of what communities are calling “harm reduction” and needle exchange programs? 4:30 What is going on in West Virginia with this issue? 6:10 Terminology is important: harm reduction or harm production? 7:28 What about the term kleptomania? 9:20 Where is this labelling of behavior leading our society to? 16:30 So what legislation did West Virginia decide to enact in April 2021? 19:25 Who is Dr. Mark Shaw’s audience when he brings up this issue? 20:40 What two languages does Dr. Shaw speak?
