Send us Fan MailHave you ever felt overwhelmed by fear? Maybe you’re walking through a difficult season, facing uncertainty, or dealing with opposition. In Psalm 56, David writes from a place of fear—he is being pursued by his enemies—but in the midst of his distress, he declares his trust in God.David begins by crying out to the Lord: “Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples on me; all day long an attacker oppresses me.” (Psalm 56:1, ESV) He acknowledges his fears, but instead of allowing them to consume him, he shifts his focus: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?” (Psalm 56:3-4, ESV) That phrase—“In God I trust”—is a declaration of faith in the midst of uncertainty. It’s not that David’s problems disappeared immediately, but he made the choice to trust God’s faithfulness over his fear.
