#111 - In The News: "Following the Science" on Addiction (Dr. Shaw)

“Following the Science” and some newsworthy international updates from The Addiction Connection with Dr. Mark E. Shaw. But first, recommended reading! The Biblical Counseling Coalition’s article was written by ACBC counselor and family practice physician, Dr. Charles Hodges, on April 2, 2021, “The Importance of Science in Biblical Counseling.” Quoting Dr. Hodges’ article, Mark explains the harms of drinking alcohol and using marijuana. “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit…” (Ephesians 5:18 ESV) [1] The Biblical Counseling Coalition promotes biblical counseling around the world. “The BCC exists to strengthen churches, para-church organizations, and educational institutions by promoting excellence and unity in biblical counseling as a means to accomplish compassionate outreach and effective discipleship.” Dr. Shaw goes into detail about how The Addiction Connection continues to make an international impact in recent weeks. SMTI - Strengthening Ministries Training Institute is a ministry in South Africa being led by Sybrand DeSwardt. Dr. Mark Shaw shares what that experience was like. He also had the opportunity to teach addictions biblical counseling via online interaction to a group of nearly 50 in Brazil.
