#112 - Henk Reitsema, theoloog (S01)

HENK REITSEMA: ‘Jullie hebben horloges, wij Zuid-Afrikanen hebben tijd’ In Onderweg is Henk Reitsema te gast. Hij werkt voor studiecentrum L’Abri in Eck en Wiel en voert dagelijks gesprekken met mensen over belangrijke levensvragen. Henk wordt geboren in Zuid-Afrika waar zijn vader zendeling en dominee is onder de Zoeloebevolking. In de kerk zitten zwarte en blanke mensen moeiteloos naast elkaar maar langzaam komt Henk erachter dat dit door de apartheid helemaal geen vanzelfsprekendheid is. Helemaal veilig is het niet voor het gezin Reitsema, op een zeker moment krijgen ze te horen dat er een aanslag wordt voorbereid op vader Arie. Gelukkig overkomt het gezin niets. Henk studeert aan de Potchefstroom University in roerige tijden. Wanneer een politiek event tussen de rivalen Joe Slovo en Eugene Terre’Blanche wordt afgelast start Henk een petitie. De stapel papieren wordt hem hardhandig afgenomen en Henk wordt door de geheime dienst aangemerkt als sympathisant van de communisten. Later studeert Henk in de VS aan de Covenant Theology Seminary in Saint Louis. Daar raken hij en zijn vrouw Riana steeds meer gecharmeerd van het werk van L’Abri. Uiteindelijk worden zij gevraagd om aan de slag te gaan in Eck en Wiel. Henk moet erg wennen aan Nederland. Onder anderen aan hoe Nederlanders omgaan met tijd. Hij zegt: ‘Jullie hebben horloges, wij Zuid-Afrikanen hebben tijd’. Elsbeth Gruteke is een uur lang met Henk in gesprek over zijn werk en zijn leven.
